After two seasons of rebuilding, the Bulldogs went on to claim the program’s first regular season title and two of its three total championship wins. This May, the four players who led this extraordinary revival are graduating and leaving UNC Asheville women’s basketball in new hands.

UNC Asheville’s women’s golf program is in its first ever season and the team of all freshmen has already won its first tournament, an exciting feat according to head coach Breanne Hall.

UNC Asheville’s women’s basketball team made Big South Conference history winning the conference tournament as the seventh seed. After a regular season of injuries and missed expectations, the Bulldogs showed their talent and confidence, winning four games in four days to claim a second championship win in two years.

Coming into the final game of the regular season against Liberty, the Flames, the Bulldogs and Winthrop were all tied for first place in the Big South. The Bulldogs became regular season champions with Winthrop after a dominant second half led by extraordinary play by junior guard Ahmad Thomas.

Bulldogs and Winthrop squared off in a battle to remain at the top of the Big South conference last Thursday. The fans in Kimmel arena got louder than ever as the one possession game gave them a 40 point single player performance and double overtime.

Both head coaches of UNC Asheville’s basketball program said that their teams are both best described as tough. Tough on the court and tough minded through the season. Two weekends in a row, the teams played double headers against conference foes on their home court. In a thrilling four games for home fans, the Bulldogs rejected any doubts that their coaches assessments are anything less than astute.
