UNC Asheville cross country team compete in the Covered Bridge Open

On Sept. 2nd, the men’s and women’s UNC Asheville cross country teams competed at the annual Covered Bridge Open at Appalachian State University to kick off the fall season.
The men’s team finished 9th overall with 235 points. Adam Hessler led the men’s team in the 8-kilometer race, finishing 16th with a 25:55.61 and earning him Big South Performer of the Week.
A crew of freshmen paced the women’s team in the season opener including the team’s top finisher Sophie Lundin, who ran a time of 19:33.54 in the 5-kilometer race and placed 60th overall. Not too far behind came fellow freshman Emma Kennett with a time of 19:56.25.
Looking ahead the Bulldogs will compete next on Sept. 17 at the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
