As SGA’s 2013 – 2014 chief of staff, Lauren Noto’s responsibilities include supervising legislation and office hours, ensuring that everything in the office is running smoothly and working closely with the president and vice president on anything they may need.
“I want to be in a job where I come home from work every night feeling like I’ve made a difference,” said Noto, a sophomore economics and political science student. “Politics has always been an interest of mine.”
She has found a home at UNC Asheville and described SGA as the ultimate liaison between students and faculty.
“I am most passionate about youth political engagement. The North Carolina General Assembly has made it harder for students to vote, and is directly disenfranchising students,” Noto said.
Noto has held and currently holds a number of positions on campus and in North Carolina, such as Early Vote Organizer in fall 2012 with the Barack Obama campaign, deputy membership director for college democrats of North Carolina, and the director of communications for UNCA Alliance.
“SGA helps provide student organizations with tools they need for success,” Noto said.
Resources provided by SGA help put on events like the annual Turning of the Maples, held each fall on the quad. Noto said she loves the beautiful fall days here in Asheville, and Turning of the Maples is one of her favorite events at UNCA.
Noto’s involvement with more than five organizations on and off campus make it clear that she is dedicated to making a difference in whatever career path she may choose.
