To celebrate the return of spring with their “Spring Into The Arb!” events, The North Carolina Arboretum and The Western North Carolina Orchid Society (WNOS) held their 25th Asheville Orchid Festival: “Orchid Kingdom” this past weekend in the NC Arboretum’s Education Center. The event brought world-class orchid growers and breeders as well as regional orchid societies to Asheville for an annual eye-catching exhibition of orchids of rare species and hybrids. While the orchid displays kept people roaming and photographing for hours, vendors from Ecuador and the United States sold a range of orchid bulbs to fully grown plants for attendees to purchase for their homes. Several video lectures and other orchid programs were available on the second floor of the education center with event admission. The annual festival’s admissions benefit WNOS to support their mission of “sharing the excitement and joy of cultivating orchids and promoting orchid conservation.” Head to ncarboretum.org/spring/ to explore the remaining “Spring Into The Arb!” events throughout April, May and June.
