“A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again.”
This does not feel like political exaggeration—it is a threat. A historical echo of the crimes committed against the oppressed. This idea of an entire civilization disappearing emulates the darkest chapters of the twentieth century.
I have never, ever been a Trump supporter. I would rather be imprisoned than support him. However, the tables are turning now—longtime supporters are turning against him over his latest social media outrage.
I rarely agree with former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene. Her politics are interesting, to say the least. But the never outspoken Congresswoman has been on the right—well as far left as she will get—side of the latest Trump issues. From the Epstein Files to now Iran.
I found out about Trump’s tweet through Greene’s post. While shocked by what Trump said, I was more shocked to see Greene calling for the invocation of the 25th Amendment.
Another shock was Candace Owens also calling for invoking the 25th Amendment.
Up until recently, I pretty much ignored her—her calling out Erika Kirk in that “Dear Erika” video was the first time I sat through an entire one of hers—but I was so curious to see if she had anything to say. I ran to her X profile.
In case you forgot, Owens is the political commentator who previously said Trump was the “savior” of Western civilization.
“He is a genocidal lunatic,” Owens wrote.
We are no strangers to genocides. I’m no Marxist, but when history repeats itself, it becomes a farce.
We’ve been through this, not even 100 years ago: the Holocaust, the Rwandan Genocide, the Bosnian Genocide. Currently, we’re seeing it with the Rohingya Genocide and the Uyghur Ethnic Cleansing. Now, Iran is under threat.
Did we not learn from our history classes? With the world at our fingertips, social media brings awareness to many things we may not have learned in school or about current international affairs.
History will keep repeating itself if we do not do something about it.
Trump is not just going beyond policy language, diplomatic language, or even partisan language; he is taking it to the language of eradication.
His current and former supporters have tolerated numerous horrible things he has promoted, but this? This is different—their rose-tinted glasses are covered by smoke and through that, they now see the utter atrocities Trump promotes.
If that doesn’t scare you, I’m not sure how else to concern you. This does concern you. Trump is actively picking a war—scratch that, genocide against a nation, despite claiming he will stop our involvement in foreign wars.
Many of us have not lived through a war that will actively affect us—yes, Afghanistan and Iraq did damage to us, but we are beyond that. This is different.
This war, having only begun in late February, has a civilian death toll of 1,701 out of at least 3,636 total deaths. Thankfully, there is currently a ceasefire in effect. But will this last?
Until the threat of invoking the 25th Amendment becomes a reality, is there ever going to be peace when a president threatens to destroy a civilization?
